Menagerie
Co-Written/Directed by: Jovani Lugo and Justin Trudeau, 2015.
Menagerie is a compiled performance piece that focuses on the topic of animality by means of anthropomorphism (attributing human like qualities to animals) and theriomorphism (attributing animal like qualities to humans). The show looks at the intersections of human and animal consciousness and begs the question whether or not βmanβ should be the measure of all things. By means of this post-humanist lens, we use myriad texts (poems, short stories, popular culture, theory) to support the argument that humans and animals share phenomenal consciousness, the capacity of both humans and animals to become sentient beings. To organize the overwhelming materials associated with humans and animals, we utilize the seven deadly sins as further measures of sentience in relationship to non-human others, ourselves, and creation itself.
